Armor Painting Progress

I sealed my cuffs with Mod Podge, then coated them with metallic acrylic craft paint.  The silver paint took many layers to cover the base color.  Here are my cuffs with the final flat layer of paint, before antiquing:

Here are the top pieces of the tassets.  The are made of craft foam, like the cuffs.  Here they have been sealed with Mod Podge but haven't been painted yet:

Here are the bottom pieces of the tassets, also made of craft foam.  Here they have been sealed with Mod Podge and have been painted with a layer of metallic blue paint and a couple layers of silver paint, but the silver still doesn't cover the red color of the craft foam that is underneath:

I got my luxurious 3" pile white faux fur from DistinctiveFabric.com, and it is amazingly soft and lush!  The furry pants are complete, but I don't have any photos right now.  I may shorten them.

Starting the Head

I read a lot of fursuiting websites before I decided on making a plastic canvas base for the head.

I look like a knight from Castle Crashers!

Who am I?

I'm Julie, and I love Soul Calibur games!  Two of my friends decided to make Sophitia and Xianghua cosplays for Katsucon, and I wanted to go as a Soul Calibur character with them.  I really love how hilarious Olcadan is (and I love owls), so I decided to cosplay him.  I've made other cosplays before, but with a lot of help from my friends.  Hopefully this time I will be able to accomplish more on my own.  I've cosplayed L (from Death Note), Beyond Birthday (Death Note: Another Note), The Prince of All Cosmos (Katamari), a Pokemon Breeder (Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, this was a costume my friend made and let me wear), and Zatanna (DC Comics).  I also worked on making a Rock (from Soul Calibur) costume for someone else, but Halloween came around before I completely finished.

The things I'm doing for this costume seem so crazy that I felt that I needed to blog about it.  I'm also not very experienced at making costumes, so a lot of things I'm doing are new to me, and I want to keep track of how I'm working on everything.

The One and Only Olcadan

Who is Olcadan?

He is a playable character from Soul Calibur III.  He is a weapons master and the greatest warrior in the world.  I am going to make him for my next cosplay!  I will wear my Olcadan costume at Katsucon 17 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, MD.  Katsucon will be February 18-20, 2011.

You can read more about Olcadan here: Olcadan on the Soul Calibur Wiki
